I have a Squire strat pack a Zoom 505 & a Hot Head pedal I am going to step up to a better guitar this year. For now can I get a Metallica, G&R or Alice in Chains sound out of what I got?

your going to get more of a grungy, alternative distortion sound coming from that squire. best thing to do is probably turn your highs down a little, your mids up, and the lows in the middle for that dirty metallica sound. also put a little reverb on if you want that G&R sound. But if you want that AIC sound, get a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal. they work great. the pedals you mention above I never used so I know nothing about them.
if your gonna get a new guitar for the sounds you want, get a Gibson Les Paul or any Gibson. Fenders are more for the cleans than anything. i hope this helps you out a little.
